The Garmin Nuvi 1490T GPS and sat nav is almost identical to the Garmin Nuvi 1390T albeit with a few small differences which could influence you should you be in the market for new device this year. Technically, these two in-car portable navigation devices use the same hardware base, although the Garmin Nuvi 1490T has a slightly larger screen and adds the advance management for programming route stages.
Good Design and Readability
With its 5-inch diagonal display and its matte finish design, the Garmin Nuvi 1490T offers good readability, even in the glare of the full sun. It is much easier to read and use when compared to the 4.3 inch Garmin Nuvi 1390T which does not deal with direct sunlight very well, which makes it hard to read on occasions.
Design of the Casing
The thickness of the device casing is 16 mm and in contrast, the Garmin Nuvi 1490T weighs just 60 grams heavier than its little brother the 1390T. The route guidance directions are clear and effective, and compared to the Nuvi 1390T, the 1490T adds management steps. This function is convenient when you want to stop at certain places along the route, or go through a different route than that recommended by the on-board GPS route planner. Additional functions included with this GPS that are worth mentioning are the Bluetooth. This is for your phone so you can make hands free phone calls, but unfortunately there is no FM transmission receiver included. The pros and cons are listed below should you be interested in buying this GPS product:

- -Clear and effective navigation

Weak Points of the Garmin Nuvi 1390T
- -Predictive addresses is not that good

Conclusion on the GPS
The Garmin Nuvi 1490T is a simple and effective GPS navigator for your car. It offers a beautiful clarity with its large 5-inch screen display. The route and step management is a plus, however, it does lack some extra features and an FM radio transmitter – items which would have placed this in my top 5 GPS units for 2012 if they had been included. As it stands, the Nuvi 1490T is definitely in the top 10 in-car navigation units as is a more than capable device to suit most kind of drivers.
